Statewide Testing

When we return from break, students will begin SBAC testing. Please be proactive and help your child establish an “I can do it” attitude. Success on this assessment will depend mainly on attitude and persistence. Our school is evaluated and held accountable based on our student’s performance. There is no such thing as “opting out” of the assessment as we are required by law to complete the assessment and meet the participation standards. Thank you in advance for helping us meet the States requirement for ALL public schools.

Junior High Lockers

All 7th & 8th students will be assigned a locker during the first week back from break. Students will not be allowed to carry around a backpack now that lockers are available to them. Food shouldn't be stored in the lockers other than a lunch/snack brought to be eaten the same day. Students will have access to lockers before school, during lunch, at break, and after school.

Booster Board Elections

Our Booster Board supports the school’s athletic program. This coming Wednesday is the annual elections for the Booster Board. If you have any interest in being on the Booster Board, please plan to attend this meeting.

School Board Elections

May is the annual school board elections for any open seats on our school board. If you are interested in serving on the school board, please visit the school website to download an application. All families have voting rights for school board officers, please plan to attend the May school board meeting in order to vote.

Read-a-thon Celebration

All students who participated in the read-a-thon during spring break by collecting sponsors, are welcome to attend the read-a-thon celebration after school on Friday. April 10.

Dress Code Review

Since the weather will be getting warmer, this is a good time to remind your child of the dress code expectations. You may want to check and see that the shorts or skirts worn early in the school year still fit before your child chooses to wear the same outfit this spring.

Quick Reminders of Dress Code - Shorts and skirts need to hit mid-thigh in the front AND the back of the leg (this is true for boys and girls in K-12). Tanks need to go to the end of the shoulder with no bra-straps exposed. Boys shouldn't wear the tanks with large wide-open sleeves that expose the chest unless they wear a T-shirt underneath. Shear tops need to have a tank underneath that meets the tank top expectations and covers all undergarment straps. Thank you for your support of the dress code expectations.

Character Trait of the Month

Integrity is the character trait for the month of April. In order to develop a school culture based on positive character traits, it is helpful to have parents and families who reinforce positive character at home.

High School Informational Meeting

This meeting is for all current 8th grade parents and students as well as any new parent/student who has applied to attend our high school program. We will discuss the high school academic program including dual credit opportunities. We will explain graduation requirements and the one-to-one device program. If you are unsure if your child will attend Compass Honors High school, this is a great opportunity to have your questions answered in order to help you in the decision making process.

Registration for 2015-16

In order to expedite the process and create class lists for teachers before the school year begins, we are going to conduct registration for the 2015-16 school year BEFORE the end of this school year. This should also eliminate the problem of families being out of town on vacation. Please mark your calendars to attend registration for the 2015-16 school year either on Monday, May 18 or Tuesday, May 19.
