May 2-6 is teacher appreciation week. The Parent Engagement Committee has come up with some ideas/ways you can show your appreciation for teachers. Registration for the 2016-17 School Year
There are 2 ways to register your returning student this year. You may register students online or come to registration at the Cherry Lane Campus (all grades) May 17 from 4:30-7:30pm or May 18 from 9:30am-1:30pm. Please watch your email for registration instructions the first week of May. A flyer will also be sent home with your student. ALL students must be registered by May 20, 2016 to keep their seat at Compass.
Amendment to the 2016-12 School Calendar
Please find attached the updated calendar. The amendment has to do with the elementary daily hours. You will notice that school will be ending at 3:30 on Tuesdays through Fridays and 2:30 for early release on Mondays.
It is our hope that families will use the calendar to plan activities/vacations aligned to the days the school already has off. Our attendance goal is 96% for ALL students in order for them to be successful. Additionally, the school’s budget is based on a 96% attendance rate. If we drop below this rate, we lose funding.
The additional staff training day which added a day to the students’ spring break was extremely beneficial for the teachers. Therefore, we would like to thank parents for their support of this extra day.
Physical Education Department
Now that the weather is getting nicer our students like to wear sandals and flip flops to school. Please remind them to bring tennis shoes for P.E. so they can participate safely.
Your K-6 child came home with information on “Jump Rope for Heart”. This is an opportunity that the P.E. Department has taken to help the American Heart Association and help raise awareness about living heart healthy. All students will be doing a jump rope event in P.E. May 5th. No donations will be collected until then. If your student chose to participate in this fund raiser they will bring in their envelope with the money they had raised on May 5th. Please read the paper work sent home for more information. They can receive their first thank you gift after raising $5 when they fill out and turn in the coupon!
Compass seniors will be presenting to a panel on May 6th; therefore, there will be no regular school for students in kindergarten through 11th grade on this day. The Senior Projects will be streaming LIVE! Thanks so much to the diligence of our superhero, supertechy, broadcasting guru, Phil Henderson.

Eighth Grade Service Project
As a service project, eighth grade Compass students will be hosting a dinner and night of entertainment for the Saint Luke's Children’s Hospital at the Cherry Lane Campus. There will also be a Silent Auction for the event. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
Nice job to the middle school track team who just finished up their season. Athletes, please get your uniforms in to Mr. Folk as soon as possible.
High school volleyball coaches have been hired for next year. The head coach will be Erin Hedrick and the assistant coach will be Sam Fritz. Both of these amazing women are Compass elementary teachers. Please watch for upcoming information on a team meeting and open gyms times.
Compass Middle School sports has just become a little more exciting! The Compass Wing Walkers will be cheering our very own Aviators on to victory. This inaugural hybrid cheer and dance team will be charged with inspiring school spirit, cheering for the middle school boys and girls basketball teams, performing at half time, and being leaders on and off the court through kindness, service, and positivity. Learn more at the summer Cheer and Dance Camp June 6-10. Next year's 7th & 8th grade camp will run from 9am-12pm, and 5th & 6th grade from 1pm-4pm. The last day of school is an early release day. Lunch will NOT be available; elementary students should bring a snack. Schedule: 1st-6th – 9:00-12:00 & 7th-11th – 7:40-11:00.
