      Student-led Conference

Spring conferences will be Student-led Conferences. The format includes parents and students (1st—12th grade) coming to the conference together. Each student will present their report card, work samples and assessment sheet to their parents. Parents are encouraged to ask questions of their child to gather additional information regarding their child’s progress. The teacher will be available for questions; however, the teacher will not meet individually with parents. If a parent feels there is a need to speak in more detail with the classroom teacher, a separate meeting can be requested of the teacher during Student-led Conferences and scheduled at a later date.

New Statewide Assessment                                                               The State of Idaho has joined a consortium of states to implement a new assessment that will replace the current ISAT (Idaho Standards Achievement Test). The new test is called the Smarter Balanced Assessment and it will be administered next spring. However, this spring, several schools are piloting the new assessment with a few grades. Compass is piloting the Smarter Balanced Assessment with our 9th and 11th grade students this March. For further information on the Smarter Balanced Assessment, you can visit this website: http://www.smarterbalanced.org/

      Common Core Standards
In addition to a new assessment; the State of Idaho has adopted new standards for instruction. The Common Core Standards are being implemented in most states in the U.S. Compass has identified a Common Core Standards Committee that is participating in training opportunities and coaching the staff at Compass.
