Siblings who are not yet enrolled in Compass must complete a lottery application for the 2012-13 school year. This includes incoming Kindergarten students. Applications can be completed online at www.compasscharter.org. Applications are also available in the school office.
Roaring Springs Reading Program
Please see attached documents for more details about the Roaring Springs reading program. The due date for reading logs is March 25th.
Every year we offer school tours to those interested in learning more about our school in order to apply for the spring lottery. If you have a sibling that is not enrolled yet or if you have friends/family that may be interested in enrolling in Compass, please inform them about our school tours. You must call to reserve a spot in a tour session, space is limited. We ask that only adults participate in the school tour, no children. The tour schedule is as follows:
Those Interested in Enrollment (prior to lottery):
Those Offered Enrollment (after lottery):
May 30 (only if enough interest)
After three years of involvement with the Compass Athletic Boosters and helping get the high school athletic program off the ground, I have decided it’s time to step away from the athletic booster club. It has been gratifying to see the athletics program at Compass develop over the past few years, and I would like to work with someone interested in taking the program to the next level in a transition plan during the course of the balance of the current school year.
A list of associated responsibilities and duties is attached.
If you are interested, please contact me or Toby Pinkerman for further information. Ideally, someone will be in place by February so we can work together on the Shoot-a-thon/Serve-a-thon, our largest and most important fundraiser which will take place on March 16, 2012.
I can be reached via email at email@example.com or at my cell phone 921-8332. Curt Goldgrabe
Arrival and Departure Schedule Reminder
Recently we have had students dropped off too early. To ensure your child’s safety Compass provides supervision for students 20 minutes prior to the start of the day (6th-12th 7:20am-7:40am/K-5th 9:10am-9:30am) and 15 minutes following the end of the day (6th-12th 2:35pm-2:50pm/K-5th 3:35pm-3:50pm). Personnel and
funding aren’t available to provide supervision outside of these hours. It is the desire of the administration at Compass Public Charter School to keep your children safe, therefore please follow the policy as outlined in the Student Handbook and make arrangements for your children to arrive and depart school according to school policy.
Students will not be allowed to “hang-out” before or after school. Secondary students (6th-12th) can NOT wait to ride the elementary buses with their younger siblings as the elementary buses are full. An alternative plan is to have your secondary student meet their younger sibling at the bus stop to provide safety and supervision for the younger sibling from the bus stop to home.
Compass Movie Night—Jan. 27th at 7pm
Compass Family Movie Night is next Friday, January 27th at 7pm in the Compass auditorium. We will be showing "Mr. Popper's Penguins" rated PG. There will be popcorn and water for purchase for .50 each (proceeds support the Compass PFA).
Keep those box tops coming! The Compass PFA just received a check for $867.70 from Box Tops for Education thanks to all of you who collect and turn those in! We will be submitting another batch coming up soon so please bring them in or send them with your child to school. We also collect labels for Labels for Education. Please see the PFA link on the Compass website for more information on collecting box tops and labels.
Compass Ski Night
This will be our first night for skiing/boarding. Our other night is scheduled for March 3. Space is limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. To insure you have a seat on the bus and rental equipment available, registration and payment are due at the school office by 3:45 Friday, February 3. The registration and conduct form are attached to this newsletter and will also be available at the school website. Our first ski session for the season always fills up fast.
At Compass, we try to reduce the number of interruptions to the learning process. One way we do this is to reduce the number of "parties" that take place in a given month. For example, we celebrate all the birthdays in a month on the last Friday of that month. Occasionally, we must combine birthdays with a holiday that also falls in that month. February is one of those months.
Therefore, February birthdays will be combined with Valentines' celebrations on February 14th.
If your child's class is celebrating Valentines by exchanging Valentine cards (typically K-5th), please remember that exchanging Valentine cards is a choice, not a requirement. If your child chooses to exchange Valentine cards, one must be brought for every student in their class.
