Athletic Fundraiser Kick Off This Monday! 
Compass Athletic boosters are pleased to team with the Idaho Stampede basketball team for our fall fundraiser. Buy a ticket for $10 to the Stampede game December 17 using the order form available on the school website and see the Compass HS girls and boys basketball teams play at CenturyLink (formerly Qwest) Arena that day too! This is a great deal for the school. Compass keeps $5 from every $10 ticket sold! Tickets will be sold up to the week of the game, so buy them now! Compass booster passes will not be valid for admission to this game. Contact Mr. Pinkerman at school or Curt Goldgrabe at 921-8332 for more information. 

New Labels for Education
1. Cut out the UPC label (bar code) from a Labels for Education product. 
2. Send the labels to school.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

K-6th grade conferences will be scheduled by appointment. The conferences are scheduled for 13 minute intervals with 2 minutes to move to the next conference.  Please be on time for your conference. The conference schedule and a clock will be outside of the teachers door. If it is your conference time and another parent is still visiting with the teacher, please knock on the door to let the parent and teacher know that it is time for the next appointment. If you need a longer conference period, you may schedule a separate conference day/time with your child’s teacher.

7th-12th grade teachers and Specials Teachers will be available in the auditorium Thursday 10:00am to 7:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 3:00pm for parents to visit at their convenience.

¨ Five minutes per subject/teacher is allotted, it’s essential that we stick to the schedule.  Waiting in line to converse with a teacher, for what feels like FOREVER, is a negative factor toward effective collaborative communication.  If there is a need for further discussion, please schedule an additional meeting with the teacher.

¨ Advanced preparation for conferences with teachers will save a lot of time:

Þ Please bring a hard copy of your child’s 1st qtr. grade report.

Þ Prioritize a list of questions, concerns, comments, etc.  Have a conversation (interview) with your child to help you make a list.

¨ Secondary students are encouraged to attend fall conferences, but parent choice is honored.

At Compass, we take parent-teacher conferences very seriously. It is an opportunity for you (the parent) and the teacher to develop a working relationship with the common goal of  helping your child succeed. We appreciate you letting teachers know if you are unable to attend conferences, especially elementary conferences which are scheduled by appointment. If you choose not to attend conferences during the scheduled time, please don’t expect the teacher to “make-up” your scheduled conference at a later date as the conference dates have been posted on the school calendar since last February.

Dual Credit and CWI Parent Meeting 
On November 8th (Tuesday) at 7PM in the high school auditorium we will be holding a CWI informational meeting. We will give a presentation of our dual credit program and answer questions that deals with Compass. Our CWI representative, Susan Johnson, will be there as well to answer any questions that you might have regarding CWI. Even if you do not have an 11th or 12th grade student, you are still invited to come so that you are informed about the program for future reference. 

Craft Bazaar 
The 2011 craft bazaar season is right around the corner. Compass Public Charter School would like to invite you to have a booth at the bazaar, which will be on November 12th from 8:30 to 4:00. 

The bazaar will be held in the gym and the booth rental fee is $25.00. The booths are approximately 10x10. You will need to provide everything needed to set up your booth, i.e. tables, chairs, power cords, etc. All funds are payable in advance to confirm your space and are non-refundable. Please make checks payable to Compass Public Charter School (CPCS) and drop them off at the office or mail them to Compass Public Charter School, Attn: Carolyn McMonigal, 2511 W. Cherry Lane, Meridian, ID 83642. You will receive an e-mail confirmation and floor plan showing your booth location. 

Plan to be a part of this wonderful opportunity to kick-start the bazaar shopping season. We will be advertising this bazaar through e-mail to our families, in the Idaho Statesman, on some of the community events boards like KTSY and KTVB and on our reader board. 

Mr. Henning reminds everyone that he is still collecting aluminum cans for the garden/science program. We have already had two recycling days and earned a total of $45.70. Our next recycling day will be on Thursday, November 17. Remember, "FILL THAT TRUCK!" 

Yearbook Ads

Compass Café 
Mrs. Long is looking for a volunteer that can help serve lunch in the Compass Café on Thursdays. Lunch runs 10:45-1:30. Please contact Mrs. Long at if you are interested. 
Box Tops 
Thank you for supporting our school through the Box Top program. Last year we made over $1,000 in box tops! Please continue to cut out the box tops and send then in with your child. 

The best way to send in box tops is by: 

Check the expiration date. 
Cut them out. (they don’t have to be perfect) 
Place them in a baggy (50 per baggy with 50 written on the bag). 
Send them to school with your child. (there is a green box for box tops in the elementary school office) 

This will greatly help when sorting and sending them into Box Tops. Box Tops collected from March 1 – Nov, 1 are paid on Dec. 15th and Nov. 2 – Feb. 28 are paid on April 15th. 

Growing Local Learning 
Albertsons will sometimes print out a coupon with your receipt for “Bonus Box Tops”. Generally, it is worth 50 bonus box tops. All you need to do is go to, register and enter the code. These coupons also have an expiration date, so you will need to check that as well. Growing Local Learning sends their information to Box Tops and are paid out with regular box tops.

Labels for Education (formally Campbell’s Soup Labels) 
Labels for Education has expanded it's participating products! This program supports schools nationwide by offering educational merchandise in exchange for UPCs clipped off participating labels. In the past, Campbell's required families to cut out the front of the soup label, and send it into the school. However, times have changed. In order for our school to redeem points from the product, Campbell's requires the UPC (bar code) INSTEAD of the front of the label. Without the UPCs our school will not receive the points for the individual labels. There are many NEW products participating now! Each product is worth 1, 5, or 10 points. The points are located by the UPC. In the past, we used our points to purchase FREE balls for our school. Please read below to see how you can be a partner with this program. Remember, extended family can be partners too!

3 easy steps to help our school: 

· CUT: Cut the UPC off of the label. (The UPC is the bar code on the back or bottom of the product.)
· SEND: Send the UPCs to school with your student. (The drop off "can" is located in the office.)
· CONNECT: Go to to connect your Albertsons & Fred Meyer Shopper cards. (applies additional points to CPCS)

John Fearey Fund 
Our 11th and 12th grade students have the opportunity to take College of Western Idaho classes for concurrent or dual credits (credits count for both high school graduation and college graduation). 

Some of our students struggle financially so we created a way to give financial assistance. It is called the John Fearey Fund. Students may apply for partial or full funding of their books and/or tuition. If you would like to contribute to this fund (non profit) we would gladly accept any amount you feel comfortable sending to us. Please make checks out to Compass Public Charter School-Fearey Fund.
