Food Drive

Compass Girl Scout Troop 262 needs your help.  To celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts, the Mayor of Meridian is going to honor Girl Scouts this March.  As a result each Girl Scout is being challenged to collect 100 nonperishable items to donate to the Meridian Food Bank.  Troop 262 needs to collect 800 items by March 12.  Please help us help our community by dropping off items in the bucket in the main office at school.  We will accept any nonperishable food items, personal item like toothpaste or soap, and baby needs.  Thanks for joining us in this cause.

Recycling Day

Our next aluminum can recycling day will be Thursday, March 15.  We were down a bit last time.  So far this school year we have had four recycling days with the following results:  August- $25.35; October- $20.35; November- $44.00 and January- $13.00.  That's a total of $102.70!  Not bad.  Keep up the good work and save those cans!  Remember you can drop off cans anytime at the container outside my classroom door or if you get too many and they are in your way just

put the bag in the back of my truck.  Go Aviators!

Student Led Conferences

Thursday and Friday, March 22nd and 23rd, are Student Led Conferences. Please see attached flyer.

Change to Calendar for Next School Year
The elementary teaching team proposed to the School Board a change to the start of the day for the 2012-13 school year. The change would mean a 9:00am start instead of a 9:30am start. The end of the school day would be the same (3:35pm) adding a half hour to the entire day.

A couple of years ago, the elementary schedule was shortened to accommodate the secondary bus route. Since that time, teachers have felt that the day is too rushed to complete the activities that make up our excellent program.

If you would like to provide input to the Board regarding this change, you can email them at board@compasscharter.org or attend the next regularly scheduled Board meeting.

High School Orientation
We are holding an orientation meeting for incoming high school students and their parents on March 13, from 7-8 PM. The orientation will be in the school auditorium. Whether you have decided to stay at Compass for high school or if you are still deciding, this meeting is your opportunity to hear what Compass Honors High School has to offer and ask questions you may have.

Shoot-a-thon/Serve-a-thon

The annual Compass fundraiser for the sports program is coming up Friday March 16 at 6:00 at the school.  Your children received their sign up forms this week to ask friends and neighbors for pledges and donations.  Instructions on how to ask for money are on the back of the forms.  The evening will include a no-cost dinner at 6:00, and the shootathon starts at 7:00.  Don’t miss the opportunity to win cash prizes during the 3-point shot and half-court shot events that evening!  This is a fun event for the whole family, so plan on attending!  Contact Mr. Pinkerman for more information.
